One of the biggest challenges with saving the original siding on an 1889 farmhouse (well, other than dealing with 13 decades of paint) is ensuring against water entry at the windows and doors. Our clapboard, where it was protected, has held up nicely to the elements. I would suggest that in some places the old-growth, heartwood fir looks as good as the day it was installed. [ . . . ]
