Building Moxie Interviews Tim Carter of Ask the Builder
6December 12, 2011
When we had our night on the town at the Remodeling Show in Chicago, we were fortunate enough to have Tim Carter from AsktheBuilder.com join us. And . . . as one thing seems to lead to another, and when he says -- "Ask the Builder," well, we did. Here is an interview with Tim. [ . . ]
Dream2O aka Faucet Heaven . . . Giving Thanks for Friends @Brizo & @DeltaFaucet
2November 22, 2011
One such opportunity came while we were in Chicago last month for, well, the Remodeling Show. We were fortunate enough to visit Delta/Brizo's state-of-the-art Dream2O Showroom at Luxe Home in the Merchandise Mart … or just “the Mart” as the locals call it. (And if you have never been . . . this place, the Merchandise Mart, is a story in itself.) [ . . . ]
Building Moxie with Shannon Rogers @McIlvainLumber

Now, while I am a super big fan of wood, in fact -- I love it, I can’t claim really to know all that much about it. Or at least this is how I felt after walking the yard with Shannon Rogers. Shannon, you see, is not only McIlvain's Director of Marketing, he is also a furniture maker, an instructor and, well, a blogger. And quite a prolific one at that. (I reprinted one of his articles here in early October.) [ . . . ]
Remodeling Show Regular :: Visiting with Chris Wright of WrightWorks
10November 8, 2011
A natural speaker Chris opened by talking about his sincere and humble passion for building things. But drawing on personal history both with FedEx and on his martial arts background, he talked of the common perceptions both sides face . . . how designers see contractors and how contractors see designers. But he says, and targeted to those of us sitting in the audience, “You must empty the cup.” [ . . . ]
An Award-Winning Designer Turns Her Attentions to Online Business(es)

Patricia Davis Brown (Patty as I like to call her sometimes) is a multiple national award winning interior designer, one part of the Dream Team that I have mentioned in these pages ever. so. often. In 1992, Patricia opened a high end cabinetry showroom in Vero Beach, Florida. Through the years she expanded into whole house interior design, lighting design and commercial design. Her business, this business, thrived for many years. That is, until 2009 -- when the recession hit both the high-end market and Florida specifically -- like some sort of 100-year tropical storm. I Heart My Local Lumber Yard :: National Lumber
4October 27, 2011
Kevin talks of the delicate balance between always doing the right thing for customers, but also being loyal to vendors (whom he refers to as partners). As I point out my own recent visit to the Remodeling Show/Deck Expo and commenting on the number of deck fastener systems that were represented, he agreed that there are -- quote “so many products.”
He continues, “It’s one of the things that sets us apart, JB.” He always peppers a conversation with my name, and I figure I am not the only one he does that with . . . . Continuing, “Sometimes it’s like a scavenger hunt, but it is our openness and our willingness to look at everything that makes us different.” [ . . . ]
