Adria Saracino :: Broken Appliances: Repair or Replace? [Interactive Infographic]
When an appliance breaks, it’s disastrous.
Appliances have become household items most of us can’t live without. When our fridge temperature is too warm, we panic. If our stove top won’t heat, we start frantically brainstorming how we can plan a week’s worth of meals using a microwave.
Replacing appliances can be costly, and that is usually the first thought that arises when we realize our appliances aren’t working properly. However, most symptoms can be fixed with a few repairs.
But how easy are these repairs? Some are easier than you think. This diagnostic infographic shows some of the most common problems that affect household appliances and which part is needed to rectify the issue. It also displays the average cost of replacing the appliance as well as the cost of the parts required to fix the problem (and a scale of the difficulty of the repair).

PartSelect.com took its data to figure out which appliances break the most frequently and what the most common problems are. From their research, they found that washers, dishwashers, and ovens are the most likely appliances to break.
Based on which parts were needed most frequently, they were able to determine what the specific problems associated with each machine were and how easy they are to fix. To make this information easier to digest, they built an interactive, HTML 5 infographic.
Hopefully this will help put to rest the repair vs. replace conundrum when it comes to our appliances and help us breath easier when we encounter a problem.

Quick note from the host: Adria first reached out when she worked with the team at eLocal. She had since move on, but still dishes out nifty infographics. (Our first posting of one here.) If you do click-thru, and to make the interactive portion of the graphic go, hit the “bullets” found in the different regions on the appliances. Thanks out again to Adria. She’s @adriasaracino and cheers all. ~jb
