A really important aspect of being involved with Building Moxie for me is the variety of viewpoints we are able to present here.

It is no secret that I take the business of building and remodeling personally. It is what I do every day and it comprises a huge junk of my time. In fact, I would say, for me there is little or no separation between my work and personal life. Like any owner of a fledgling small business I eat sleep and drink the dang thing.

For the most part, I really like this “living of the work”. Occasionally, I think it would be nice to have some free time, and I am always on guard against reaching a point of burnout, but at least for now, there is something entirely natural about being immersed in the business.

This is why I find it natural that this blog should be a place for both professional and personal experience. For me there is no clear line of distinction between the two and thus what we do, we write about. I have often said to JB that I feel my job qualifies me to publish almost anything on Building Moxie and that with me; readers get one man’s experience of a life in the trades. I like to sit down to write about that life and not feel bound by limitations of what is appropriate for this site.

But also, I can grow really tired of living in my own head. This is why I have no desire to have my own personal blog. Instead, I love that we are creating something here which can only be called a collective. I love the variety; it feeds my spirit and makes me (only) part of a much larger whole.

As for the title of this here piece, I am including you ladies under the heading of “blokes” and it is my hope that, together, we can continue to create a blog with something for anyone with any interest in the home.
