First, two things –

I think one of my all-time favorite phrases is “shameless self promotion” and while admittedly I am not always the best with it, I like it and it goes back to my days playing in rock bands.  Across the network of people that we knew, it was unspoken and cool – Shameless Self Promotion.  Promote yourself, and since promotion in most cases and by its nature is pretty lacking in, well, humility (or shame) – why not just go full force, full on shameless?  And maybe it is most effective this way, and in fact — the only way you can approach it.

Building Moxie :: Baltimore on FacebookAnd I think if I had it to do all over and given the current state of things – I might consider doing a community-oriented Facebook page similar to my friend Peter Means at Dover Projects.  I mean – none of the headaches with site design, or hosting, or getting hacked . . . you can quickly engage and converse with (most of) your target audience.  Sure maybe still have a blog, but make it secondary, and promote through Twitter still . . . . It’s visual, outward-oriented, and/or web-centric if you want.  And it is not vain to tell the world (or your friends) what you are doing,  to show off or brag.  I mean — it is accepted; cool — it’s at the core of Facebook and always has been.  And I don’t know . . . but something about that sounds pritty appealing.  Then again – Tumblr might be fun to try too.

Anyway, in honor of #FBLT . . . that’s FaceBook Like Tuesday for those who have not heard.  And I know – social medias collide.  On Tuesday, an open event where anyone who wants can (shamelessly) promote their page on Twitter by providing the link and simply adding the hash tag #FBLT.  It is a great way to get a few page likes both from the business community at large and/or from some of your friends and followers in the general stream.  (For more info, see this page here >> https://www.facebook.com/notes/sundt-construction-inc/facebook-liking-tuesdays-on-twitter-or-fblt/188980444470067?notif_t=note_comment.)

FaceBook Like Tuesday aka #FBLT

. . . I wanted to give a nod not only to the project, but also a shout out to some of the pages on Facebook that make the experience enjoyable . . . for me.  I set out to do five, and with no real criteria — the list grew quickly to ten, but probably could have gone a lot, lot further.  And while most of these sources also have blogs, I tried to pick ones that seem to be bringing something more than what they are already doing at some other place on the web.  I wasn’t concerned with how many Likes these pages already had, and I know.   My experience isn’t gonna be your experience . . . but if you’re into home improvement or bloggishy kinda stuff, this is a good group.  Like these pages (you know, by clicking the thumb) . . . like I do.  And here we go, #FBLT and we’ll call it — Shameless Cross Promotion:

* Sundt Construction (@Sundt_) — The architect of #FBLT had to be included in this list. Sundt Construction is a 100% employee-owned (commercial) construction company headquartered in Tempe, AZ.  http://www.facebook.com/#!/SundtConstruct

* Riggins Construction (@rigginsconst) — Every architect needs a draftsperson (or something like that).  An early advocate of #FBLT, Riggins Construction is a family-owned general contracting firm servicing commercial costumers in Southern California.  http://www.facebook.com/#!/rigginsconst

* Dover Projects (@DoverProjects) — Mentioned above, my buddy Peter is an enthusiastic diyer building a community of like-minded people through Facebook.  He frequently posts his own projects and speaks to his followers; they frequently comment back.  http://www.facebook.com/#!/DoverProjects

* BuildDirect (@BuildDirect) — Editor Rob Jones has a great mix of content, chat, and even an occasional vlog.  http://www.facebook.com/#!/builddirect

* modwalls (@modwalls) — The Facebook page for his Central Coast tile supplier features some chat, plus gobs and gobs of cool pics.  Many are generated through their quarterly photo contests and are submitted by happy customers.  http://www.facebook.com/#!/modwalls

* Modenus (@Modenus) — Veronika Miller’s design community and blog are represented well on this page. To it, her team frequently streams coverage of design related events . . . see Modenus At Largehttp://www.facebook.com/#!/Modenus

* MyFixitUpLife (@MyFixitUpLife) — Home improvement experts, and wunder couple, Mark and Theresa seem to have their hands in almost every medium.  Their Facebook page too is full of fun and family-friendly content. http://www.facebook.com/#!/MyFixitUpLife

* DiggersList (@DiggersList) — The original homeowner-oriented classifieds has a page packed with questions, quirky news and views, and a peppering of cool links.  http://www.facebook.com/#!/diggerslist

* Modern Bird Studios (@modern_bird) — This innovative art studio has a great sense of humor and does a fantastic job of featuring their own work.  I have love for their Weekly Blogger Interview features, plus I want more friends in DC.  http://www.facebook.com/#!/ModernBirdStudios

* Redhead Writing (@RedHeadWriting) –  haWell.  Building Moxie likes witty. sassy. smart. redheads.  http://www.facebook.com/#!/RedheadWriting
