It is for you disected day of hats now
Audio is something I have been trying to work into my routine for some time now. I like recording, so it seems natural that I would record notes to myself. I began with voice recorders and moved into my phones. I have just gotten a new phone that understands me – somewhat. I can tell from the software which converts voice to text. If I talk really slow this phone gets me.
Some time ago, I read an article in the New York Times called: It is for you defective day of hats, no? It was about (then) state of the art translation software. “Defective day of hats” was “bad hair day” translated into Italian and then back into English. Thinking about that article, I decided to record voice to text on this phone for my post today. I spoke at my normal pace and tried to say simple things. I got swept along a little and messed with spacing but left out punctuation.
Talking Slow
my phone really understands me that is as long as I speak low but if I sorta talk my normal pace amazon just left in the dust this is the difference the by the way between human and machine humangear every cell thing feel it all most machines only understand you when you’re talking slow
did some doors
today I did some doors that is I took some doors out an installed some new ones doing them only works if you do them all the time
Frias me up
my new phone is really working for me
my old phone couldn’t work very hard
this 1 gives me lots of options when I’m out an about
it is new and freeze me up to do lots of things I have wanted to do
freeze me up I hope not
oh don’t be mistaken things can turn on a dime
(The title, up there, is yet another incarnation of bad hair day.)

The kicker was when I spoke in complete gibberish and the phone returned this:
what is the ass olympus e alone
this is about the phone booth online
this is on vacation this job interview facebook.com some days listen to find a home phone sean #### to fold paper while apple who is this when is the superbowl on sunday song new york isn’t easy and tickles what is reasonable this singling indiana I love you going to swim to send Texas. One thing is for sure I could not have said that better myself.
In many ways this was just a silly exercise, but it gets to the heart of something that is close to my own and that is the give and take required as people partner with technology. I think we live in a world that works very hard to make us believe the future is now. I see us selling the idea to ourselves, daily, in a planet wide world’s fair. We call technologies smart, but not like in “a smart idea” but like in “intelligent”.
The article I referred to, and this go ‘round with the voice to text software, remind me that technology is a state of the art. I need to hear this amidst the virtual blitz. It makes me hopeful that my phone and I may act like good partners and make one another better. With this in mind, I will talk slowly and enunciate whenever I am making voice notes. :-)
I am really glad you enjoyed this.

Freeze me up Scotty! I’ve done some translations with Babel Fish and laughed at the results. Haven’t tried a phone dictation thing, though. -

so are you saying that you dictated your thoughts to your new phone and the text in red is the output from the phone?… and it does make some sort of strange poetry. really… a super imaginative post. I personally love it! thanks b.
